My "WHY" letter,

Dear Dr. Amson:

With regard to my visit with you last week, you requested that I write you and tell you why I think I am morbidly obese. In all honesty, I really don’t know and not because I haven’t tried, over the years, to find the cause. I can only assume that my problem is one of being predisposed to being heavy as both my parents had weight problems; my father in particular. I have been in so many group therapy sessions through Dr. Jack Peterson’s weight loss groups (for years) and also at Dr. Peterson’s recommendation, I had three visits with Dr. Larry Padzer. I truly think my weight problem is a result of genetic factors.

I don’t have any psychological problems. I was raised in a good home by very loving parents (an only child), I am a positive person with a wonderful network of friends and a wonderful relationship with my husband of 35 years. My husband is extremely loving and I can honestly say that I have never felt the lack of friends or love. I am truly blessed in that area.

I do however, have a lot of health problems, almost all of them caused by my weight – i.e. high blood pressure, sleep apnea, knees both replaced, three heart attacks (two that I wasn’t aware of having had), high cholesterol, sore back, and now can’t walk much as my knees are starting to bother me again. I also have a small bladder problem, which I am sure is related to my weight. I also have rheumatoid and Osteo arthritis.

I have been a patient of Dr. T. Connolly’s and have spent two nights at the sleep lab (a few years apart) and have been diagnosed by him as having sleep apnea.

I trust this information is of help to you. I am willing to do whatever is required in order to have the surgery and have an appointment with Dr. Arnason later this month.

Yours truly,
