Greg Stewart's Story

Hi…My name is Greg Stewart. I first met Dr. Amson on June 24, 2004 and as most of you probably know, next to making the call to his office actually showing up for the appointment was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life…little did I know that showing up that summer day would change my life forever. Dr. Amson took me through a very detailed explanation of their program and gave me some very serious answers to some very serious questions. Answers I had not wanted to listen to for many years…you see I had turned 40 years old earlier that year and I was flirting with a weight of nearly 350 pounds and at only 5’ 5” I was slowly killing myself and I thought that weight loss surgery was my only solution. Dr. Amson explained to me that one of the goals of their program was not to have to do the surgery and if there was any way I could avoid it I should. After 3-4 hours of consultation I left that day feeling very satisfied with what Dr. Amson had told me as well with the knowledge that he was the right person to help me understand what needed to be done.

For three months I weighed, no pun intended, all my options to lose the weight and finally decided to try to lose the weight naturally through diet and exercise one last time. I know that I didn’t think it was possible and went into the situation with somewhat of a defeatist attitude but what did I have to lose????
I met with a woman, Barb Dales, who I had hired to fitness train a men’s professional lacrosse team I operated and because I was so impressed with her results with my team I figured if there was anybody who could help me it was her. I have always hated going to the gym and despised the pretentious attitudes of some of those gym people, we all know who I speak of, but given the choice of life or death and with the personal support of my trainer, closely monitored by my family doctor, I managed to make it through. I started on October 1st, 2004 with a weight 350 pounds and was only able to work out 3 days a week ½ hour each day, under Barb’s close attention. She informed me that until I lost 100 pounds the treadmill was going to become my best friend. She also had a great knowledge of nutrition and helped me design a daily food plan that would help me meet the desired weight loss goals we set for myself. Again she reminded me that it might become repetitive and sometimes boring but when faced with the option of living at 350 pounds it shouldn’t be too hard a pill to swallow.
So lets jump ahead nine months of working out and eating right and 1 year from the date of my first meeting with Dr. Amson and here I am to date….

Surgery: none
Start weight (October 01-04): 350 pounds
Current weight (June 30-05): 230 pounds
Weight lost: 120 pounds
Starting BMI: 57.0
Current BMI: 38.1
Starting % B.F.: 58.3
Current % B.F.: 35.8
Exercise: 7 days a week at least 1 hour every day of high cardio workout on treadmill (7-10 hours cardio)
Diet: continued balanced eating habits monitored daily by my trainer Barb Dales
Goal Weight: 160 - 170 pounds

I want everyone to know that my only thoughts about weight loss surgery a year ago was that it was my only solution. But under the close guidance of Dr. Amson, my personal G.P. and my trainer Barb I have been able to be successful where I once figured I could never be and I am seeing positive results where I thought I never would…and even though I realize that the last person on earth you want to hear has had success at losing weight is someone who goes to the gym 7 days a week I must remind you where I was mentally 9 months ago and what I thought was impossible is now possible and I personally think it is possible for anyone…I will be honest and say that it wasn’t easy and that I did have some bad days but as long as I had more good days then bad I was going to be ok. I was scared, terrified actually, but now I have another chance at a longer life and my life is worth making any sacrifices for in order to become healthy again.

Thank you Dr. Amson!

Greg
